Benefits of Intensive EMDR
What are the benefits of intensive EMDR?
I offer EMDR Intensives for my Oregon and Missouri clients in need of extra support, as well as new clients who reside outside of these states. Regardless of location, EMDR Intensives range from 2 to 10 days, with both weekday and weekend options. These personalized treatment plans allow you to skip the waitlist by giving you faster access to select appointment spots. They’re also designed to support your preferred schedule and timeline for your treatment goals.
Research shows that intensive EMDR treatment—several long sessions conducted over a short period of time—can help heal trauma faster than traditional therapy.
One study published in the European Journal of Psychotrauma in July 2018 found that “more than half of the patients lost their PTSD diagnosis following 8 days of [intensive trauma-focused] treatment.” Learn more here.
Another study found in the European Journal of Psychotrauma from February 2018 described how most patients experienced fewer symptoms after participating in a five-day inpatient program involving EMDR and trauma-informed yoga. Read about the pilot study here.
A paper published in the Journal of EMDR Practice and Research in November 2017 concluded that increasing the number of EMDR sessions can lead to positive results for people living with complex PTSD. Learn more here.
A February 2015 article from the Trauma Institute and Child Trauma Institute pointed out that intensive EMDR therapy may be cheaper in the long run, due in part to more time spent on healing from trauma and less time spent “checking in” and working on coping skills that won’t be needed after the trauma is healed.
